The living room smelled wonderfully of dusty paper and grand ambitions. Idris, wearing a teal-blue waffle-knit shirt and heavy mustard-yellow overalls, was in the middle of a breathless whisper-shout. “The Mega-Fortress of Snack-Eating is almost complete!” he declared, adjusting his tangerine-orange high-tops. Beside him stood Kavi, in a forest-green windbreaker and dusty-rose trousers. Kavi patted the cardboard. “Remember, Idris, these corrugated flutes act like tiny arches. They need exact right angles for structural strength.”

Idris waved off Kavi’s dramatic sigh. “Angles are boring! Speed is genius!” But just as Idris balanced the grand roof, a loud *RIIIP* echoed through the room. The main load-bearing flap had split! “Structural emergency!” Idris gasped. The roof sagged heavily against his shoulder. He needed a repair, and he needed it now. Across the carpet sat the Great Tape Dispenser—a heavy, sand-weighted beast of black plastic armed with ultra-sticky packing tape.

Idris had a terrible habit of rushing. Instead of asking Kavi for help, he stretched his arm to the absolute limit while balancing the sagging roof with his head. He pinched the tape and gave it a frantic pull. *Screeech!* The tape snagged on the dispenser’s metal teeth, folded over, and jammed into an impossible clump. The fortress groaned above him. The clock was ticking, and Idris was stuck.

Therefore, Idris decided brute force was the only logical answer. He yanked the jammed tape as hard as he could. *Squawk!* The tape stretched thin like a transparent rubber band, screaming in protest before snapping back into a curled, useless knot. Kavi pushed up his glasses. “Acrylic adhesive relies on Van der Waals forces. It requires smooth, flat pressure to bond. Yanking creates a polymer nightmare.” Idris ignored the science lesson.

But then the cardboard roof dipped another inch, bumping Idris’s nose. Desperate times called for desperate measures. Since his hands were full of crumbling cardboard, Idris lunged forward to bite a clean edge off the dispenser with his teeth. “I cand fix id!” he mumbled around the plastic roll, pinning the box with his knee. He twisted his head like a wild badger. Kavi gasped, pulling out a small safety notebook.

Therefore, the tape sprang backward with a vengeance. It snapped off the wheel, wildly twisting through the air before plastering itself directly across Idris’s cheek, looping down to snag the white rubber toe caps of his sneakers. “Mmph!” Idris cried, hopping on one foot. “I am writing you up for three distinct safety violations,” Kavi sighed, meticulously recording the disaster. The tape was now securely bonding Idris to himself.

But then a terrifying crinkle echoed from the ceiling flap. The fortress was failing! Throwing caution to the wind, Idris hoisted the heavy, sand-filled tape dispenser with his sticky hands. If he couldn’t bring the tape to the box, he would drag the whole heavy machine directly across the fragile cardboard seam. “Behold my ultimate engineering solution!” he whisper-shouted, raising the beastly plastic dispenser high above his head.

Therefore, disaster struck. The sand-weighted dispenser was incredibly slippery. It slipped right out of Idris’s tape-tangled grip and plummeted onto the roof. *CRUNCH.* The heavy plastic smashed directly through the corrugated flutes. “The arches!” Kavi shrieked. “You’ve compromised the internal cushioning!” The dispenser tumbled down the slope, ripping a massive jagged hole through the center of the snack fortress. Idris watched in horror as the walls buckled inward.

*WHUMP.* The Mega-Fortress of Snack-Eating collapsed into a sad, flat pancake of ruined brown paper. Idris lay buried beneath a crushed pile of C-flute cardboard, tangled in a sticky web of ruined acrylic adhesive. His mustard-yellow overalls were plastered with tape. It was his darkest hour. His relentless rushing hadn’t saved the fortress; it had destroyed it. “I am a terrible architect,” Idris mumbled from under a torn flap.

Kavi knelt beside the wreckage, his slate-grey canvas shoes squeaking softly. “You aren’t a terrible architect,” Kavi said kindly, peeling a piece of tape off Idris’s ear. “You just forgot that a strong foundation takes patience. And a partner.” Idris stopped thrashing. He looked at the ruined box, then at his meticulous friend. He took a long, deep breath, untangling his tangerine sneakers. “You’re right,” Idris said. “We need to rebuild. Together.”

They salvaged the undamaged cardboard. This time, Idris didn’t rush. Kavi carefully aligned the corrugated flutes, holding the right angles perfectly steady. Idris approached the Great Tape Dispenser with newfound respect. Using two hands, he smoothly peeled the tape, cutting a clean strip. He laid it flat across the seam, rubbing it firmly to activate the sticky Van der Waals forces just like Kavi had taught him. Steady, careful teamwork.

The new Mega-Fortress stood tall, strong, and completely tape-tangle-free. Sunlight filtered warmly through a perfectly square window as the two friends sat inside on soft pillows. Idris happily passed a bowl of crackers to Kavi. “Structurally sound and exceptionally sticky!” Idris whisper-shouted with a massive grin. Kavi took a cracker, chewing thoughtfully. “The fortress passes inspection,” Kavi sighed with a small, secret smile. “But we may need a better snack-to-tape ratio.”
